Eager avoids arbitration; inks one-year deal with Thrashers Staff

Forward Ben Eager avoided arbitration on Wednesday, agreeing to a negotiated settlement on a one-year deal with the Atlanta Thrashers at $965,000.

Eager, who was obtained from Chicago in a trade that included Dustin Byfuglien, Brent Sopel and Akim Aliu, filed for salary arbitration in early July and had a hearing scheduled for Aug. 3.

The restricted free agent put up seven goals and nine assists with a plus- 16 rating over 60 games with the Blackhawks last season. The Ottawa native has earned 27 goals and 25 assists with 621 penalty minutes in 255 career NHL games with Chicago and Philadelphia.

Eager, 26, was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2002 Entry Draft.
