Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic will be spending part of Boxing Day having a disciplinary hearing with the NHL for his actions on Thursday night.

Lucic was assessed a match penalty late in the third period of the Bruins game against the Thrashers, when he punched defenceman Freddy Meyer while both players were contained by officials.

Meyer set off the skirmish at the 15:54 mark of the third period when he hit Lucic.  That hit, prompted Bruins defenceman Andrew Ference to charge Meyer for a quick fight that sparked two other fights and left Ference with blood dripping from his right eye as he was led from the ice.

After the referees had seemingly restored calm, Lucic unexpectedly hit Meyer.

NHL vice-president of hockey operations Mike Murphy will handle the hearing, as the Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell's son Gregory is a member of the Bruins.
