Flames veteran Morrison to undergo knee surgery

Calgary Flames forward Brendan Morrison
will undergo left knee surgery on Tuesday.
Morrison injured his ACL when he was tied up awkwardly on the boards with Chicago Blackhawks defencemen Niklas Hjalmarsson
during a game last week.
Morrison waited to have the procedure because he was hoping to play on with a brace if the Flames were able to make the playoffs. However, it became clear that as the intensity of his workouts increased his knee couldn't handle it.
Prior to the injury, the 35-year-old posted nine goals and 32 assists for the Flames and provided a strong presence defensively, leading the team with a plus-13 rating.
Morrison plans on returning to the NHL next season if there is a team interested in his services. He becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
