The Washington Capitals have signed goaltender Tomas Vokoun to a one-year contract worth $1.5-million.

Vokoun, 34, played 57 games for the Florida Panthers in 2010-11, posting a record of 22-28-5 with a 2.55 GAA.

In 632 career games with Nashville and Florida, Vokoun has posted a record of 262-267-41, with a career goals against average of 2.56 and an impressive .917 save percentage.

The new deal is a significant pay-cut for the two-time all-star, who is coming off a four year deal that paid him more than $22-million.

Washington created a vacancy in their crease yesterday, dealing Semyon Varlamov to the Colorado Avalanche.

Vokoun was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the ninth round, 226th overall in 1994.
