Blue Jays catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud suffered a torn ligament in his thumb during the Baseball World Cup and has already undergone surgery to repair it.

d'Arnaud suffered the injury while playing for Team USA at the event in Panama. He had the surgery in Phoenix.

The 22-year-old was a first-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft, and was traded to Toronto as part of the Roy Halladay deal in 2009.

He played in 114 games for double-A New Hampshire this past season and batted .311 with 21 home runs and 78 RBI.

The Blue Jays announced on Sunday that d'Arnaud will be ready to attend spring training in February.
