The Los Angeles Kings' search for a new head coach is well underway as the team looks to replace Terry Murray behind the bench.
TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports on ESPN.com that the Kings, after receiving permission from the Calgary Flames, have contacted Darryl Sutter about the position.
Sutter resigned from his position as general manager of the Flames on December 28, 2010 but still remains under contract with the team.
The Viking, Alberta native was hired by the Flames in 2002 to coach the club. He moved into the general manager's position the following year and held both jobs until 2006.
Sutter led the Flames to the Stanley Cup final in 2003-04, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games.
The search for a new head coach began when Kings general manager Dean Lombardi fired Murray from the position on Monday. The Kings have lost four straight games to drop to 13-12-4 on the season, and sit 12th in the Western Conference.
