Nail Yakupov of the Sarnia Sting has been suspended for two games for failing to participate in Wednesday's Top Prospects game in Kelowna.

Yakupov, who was injured during the World Junior Hockey Championship but returned to the lineup last week, announced his plans to pass on the event via a team release on Monday due to advice from a London doctor.

"Dr. R. Giffin of the Fowler Kennedy Clinic in London has advised the hockey club that it is in the best interest of the player not to partake in the Top Prospects game on Wednesday in Kelowna," said Sting general manager Jacques Beaulieu in the statement.

Yakupov, who is slated to be a top pick at this summer's NHL Entry Draft, has 22 goals and 33 assists for 55 points in just 29 games this season.

He will miss Friday's home game against the Plymouth Whalers and Thursday's game against the Colts in Barrie.
