Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson confirmed to reporters on Monday morning that he suffered a concussion after being hit by New York's Carl Hagelin on Saturday and did not dress for Game 3 this evening.

Bobby Butler took Alfredsson's spot in the lineup, alongside Nick Foligno and Kyle Turris.

Hagelin received a three-game suspsension from NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan after Hagelin hit Alfredsson's head in Saturday's Senators win.

"Carl is not that kind of player," Alfredsson told reporters on Monday. "In the intensity of a playoff game, things happen. It's one thing the league is preaching, no blows to the head...he got his elbow up...things happen, it's playoff hockey."

Ottawa's Matt Carkner was also suspended for Game 3 after instigating a fight with Brian Boyle on Saturday. Matt Gilroy stepped in for Carkner in Game 3.
