Canada's women's pair Ganes and Lagzdins advance to WC final

MUNICH, Germany -- Canada's women's pair of Carolyn Ganes and Larissa Lagzdins advanced to the final at World Cup event Saturday in Munich.

Ganes of Saskatoon and Lagzdins of Burlington, Ont., finished the 2,000 metres third in seven minutes 29.45 seconds. Romania was first in 7:24.19 followed by Germany (7:27.66).

Canada's paralympic mixed four crew missed the podium

World champions Great Britain took gold in 3:25.25 in the 1,000-metres Germany was second in 3:25.78, and the Ukraine grabbed the final medal in 3:30.81. Canada was sixth.

"It's an eye opener to what the competition will be in London," said Canada's para-rowing coach Jeff Dunbrack. "We are up for the challenge."

The Canadian crew is coxswain Kristen Kit of St. Catharines, Ont., Victoria Nolan of Toronto, David Blair of Ottawa, Meghan Montgomery of Winnipeg and Tony Theriault of Nanaimo, B.C.
