The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenceman Korbinian Holzer to a one-year contract late on Monday.
The deal is reportedly a one-way deal, which means the Leafs likely expect Holzer to begin the season on Toronto's big league roster after the blueliner spent most of last season with the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
Holzer, 24, appeared in 67 regular season games for the Marlies, where he had one goal and 19 assists. He added five points in 17 playoff games during Toronto's run to the Calder Cup Final.
Holzer was recalled by the Maple Leafs twice last season but did not appear in a game with the big club.
With Luke Schenn having been traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Maple Leafs now have six defencemen under contract. They include Dion Phaneuf, Mike Komisarek, Jake Gardiner, Carl Gunnarsson, John-Michael Liles, and now Holzer.
