Northmen top Mountaineers to book spot in Minto Cup final

WHITBY, Ont. -- The Orangeville Northmen closed out the Minto Cup round robin in style Tuesday, with the Ontario club crushing the Calgary Mountaineers 15-1 to clinch a spot in the tournament's best-of-three final.

With their third straight loss, the Mountaineers (0-3) go home bottom of the group.

Cody McMahon led the Northmen (3-0) with four goals and four assists while Rob Hellyer and AJ Mason also scored hat tricks. Tyler Melnyk got the only goal for the Mountaineers.

The Whitby Warriors beat the Coquitlam Adenacs 17-8 in Tuesday's late game, in a preview of Wednesday's semifinal.

Dan Lintner scored five goals for the Warriors (2-1), with Curtis Knight and Chris Attwood also putting up five points. Robert Church was the Adenacs' (1-2) top point-getter, with four assists for the B.C. club.

The winner of Wednesday's Whitby-Coquitlam semifinal will go up against the Northmen on Friday.
