Reds' Bruce, Marlins' Nolasco share NL weekly honours

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Reds right fielder Jay Bruce and Miami Marlins pitcher Ricky Nolasco were named National League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending Sept. 9.

Bruce batted .500 with a 1.227 slugging percentage in six games last week. He also had nine RBI and scored five runs. The 25-year-old posted a new career- high in homers when he clubbed his 33rd in a 5-1 over the Houston Astros on Saturday. Bruce has earned the weekly award five times in his career, tied for most in Reds' history with Eric Davis.

Nolasco went a perfect 2-0 last week with a 0.56 earned run average. He tossed a shut out against the Washington Nationals on Sunday, his second against the club since Aug. 28.

Other players considered for the award were Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche, San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley and Atlanta Braves pitcher Kris Medlen.
