MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves say Kevin Love does not need surgery to repair two broken bones in his right hand.
Love met with specialists in New York on Thursday, one day after breaking his hand while doing knuckle pushups in a morning workout. Doctors informed Love that the injury can heal without surgery, but he is still expected to miss six to eight weeks.
Coach Rick Adelman says he will spend the next two weeks of the preseason experimenting with lineups to see what the best combinations will be to reduce the damage done by Love's absence. The two-time All-Star averaged 26 points and 13.3 rebounds last season.
Adelman says they'll need everyone to step up. He thinks Brandon Roy will have to take over more of the scoring load.
