TORONTO -- Ottawa 67's forward and touted prospect Sean Monahan was suspended 10 games by the Ontario Hockey League on Friday.
Monahan was penalized for a checking to the head infraction that happened last Sunday afternoon when the 67's lost 3-2 to the visiting Plymouth Whalers.
The incident happened with 1:44 left in the game as the Ottawa co-captain elbowed Plymouth captain Colin MacDonald in the face while behind the Whalers net.
There was no penalty called on the play.
The six-foot-two, 186-pound Monahan has 12 goals and 24 assists this year for Ottawa. He finished the 2011-12 season with 33 goals and 45 assists in 62 games.
His was listed as the top OHL prospect by NHL Central Scouting heading into the 2013 NHL draft.
