KUUSAMO, Finland -- Olympic champion Nikita Kriukov won a cross-country World Cup sprint race Friday.
The Russian finished ahead of former World Cup champion Petter Northug and Norwegian teammate Eirik Brandsdal. Organizers say the finishing times are not yet available.
Kriukov says he "knew that Petter was very strong uphill but the last 100 metres I did my best."
Marit Bjorgen won the women's 7.5-kilometre race ahead of Norwegian teammate Heidi Weng and Charlotte Kalla of Sweden. Bjorgen won the race in 29 minutes, 21.6 seconds. Weng was 46.1 seconds behind and Kalla trailed by 46.8 seconds.
A photo finish was needed for third place between Kalla and Therese Johaug of Norway.
Perianne Jones of Almonte, Ont., matched her career-best individual World Cup result with a 12th-place finish. Daria Gaiazoava of Banff, Alta., was 14th.
