OHL: Anderson sets record in Sting win over Greyhounds

JP Anderson became the Ontario Hockey League's all-time career wins leader as the Sarnia Sting beat the visiting Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in OHL action.

The 20-year-old goaltender stopped 29 shots to earn his 115th OHL victory, which moves him one win ahead of former Sault Ste. Marie goaltender Kyle Gajewski.

Anderson is 15-9-6 this season and has never finished with less than 23 wins in a year since his rookie season with the Mississauga St Michael's Majors back in 2008-09, when he won 12 contests.

Reid Boucher, Davis Brown and Alex Galchenyuk scored third-period goals for the Sting (18-11-3), who have won six of their last seven outings, while Daniel Nikandrov scored in the first period.

Trent Mallette scored in the first period for the Greyhounds (14-16-2) as Matt Murray turned away 29-of-33 shots in a losing cause.

Sarnia finished 1 for 3 on the power play while the Sault Ste. Marie struggled, going 0 for 5.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Brampton 5, Erie 2; London 5, Mississauga 2; Windsor 3, Oshawa 2; Ottawa 2, Kitchener 1 (SO).

At Sarnia, Ont., Nikandrov opened the scoring for the Sting 6:05 into the first period, but Mallette responded for the Greyhounds less than two minutes later to make it 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.

Sarnia outshot Sault Ste. Marie 16-7 in the second period, however, neither club could score a goal and they went into the final period tied.

Boucher scored what turned out to be the winning goal 11:50 into the third period while on the power play.

Galchenyuk made it 3-1 for the Sting less than two minutes later and Boucher added a fourth goal at 17:01.

At Windsor, Ont., Trevor Murphy scored twice, including the game winner, and Jaroslav Pavelka made 24 saves as the Spitfires (14-12-6) edged Oshawa (17-12-3) for their fourth win in a row.

At Kitchener, Ont., Dante Salituro had the shootout winner as Ottawa beat the Kitchener Rangers (18-9-4).

It was only the second win for Ottawa (8-22-3) in its last 17 games.
