The New York Islanders have signed free agent defenceman Radek Martinek to a one-year deal worth $600,000 with the potential for an additional $150,000 in bonuses. The conract carries a cap hit of $600,000.
Martinek spent last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets but appeared in only seven games before being placed on injured reserve due to a concussion.
He was originally drafted by the Islanders with the 228th pick in the 1999 NHL Draft and played the first nine seasons of his NHL career with the team before signing the Blue Jackets last season.
In 460 career games in the NHL Martinek has 22 goals, 82 assists and has accumulated 272 penalty minutes.
