CLEVELAND -- The Abbotsford Heat scored three unanswered goals and beat the Lake Erie Monsters 4-1 to take over first place in the American Hockey League's North Division on Friday.
Ben Street, Paul Byron, Tyler Ruegsegger and Brett Olson each scored for the Heat (23-14-7), which leapfrogged the Monsters by one point in the packed North Division.
Abbotsford's hold on the division is tenuous. Just four points separate the Heat from the fourth-place Rochester Americans.
Brad Malone's third-period goal was all the offence Lake Erie (24-17-4) would get.
Danny Taylor made 23 saves for Abbotsford, while Calvin Pickard stopped 25 shots at the other end of the ice.
