San Jose Sharks forward Ryane Clowe is suspended pending a hearing with National Hockey League Director of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan for an incident that occurred at the end of Friday's 2-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

With seconds remaining in regulation, Clowe left the bench and started an altercation with Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw after teammate Joe Pavelski had been driven into the boards.
Clowe was handed a minor penalty for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct, while Shaw was assessed a boarding minor on the play.

Officials determined that Clowe came off bench for the purposes of starting an altercation and will not play Saturday night against the Dallas Stars.

Clowe has been offered an in-person meeting, allowing the NHL to suspend a player for six games or more.

One option is an automatic 10-game suspension but that carries with it a one-game suspension for the head coach and Todd McLellan will be behind the Sharks' bench on Saturday.
