The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Alexander Semin to a five-year, $35 million contract extension.
"We're very happy to retain Alex," said Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford. "Alex is an elite player and has been a major contributor to the Hurricanes having a very strong top line."
Semin, 29, is in his eighth NHL season and his first with the Hurricanes, after signing as a free agent on July 26, 2012.
Through 30 games this season, the Russian sniper has eight goals and 22 assists with a plus-18 rating. He is tied for 11th among all NHL skaters in assists this season, and tied for 10th in plus/minus rating.
Drafted by the Washington Capitals in the first round (13th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Semin has 499 career NHL games under his belt with 205 goals, 233 assists and a career plus-83 rating.
