The Deal on Jagr
As TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun writes on ESPN.com, it'as still unclear as to what will transpire with Jaromir Jagr. According to LeBrun, the Dallas Stars approached Jagr's three weeks ago about a contract extension, and the two sides have gone back and forth since.
LeBrun adds that the Stars' front office is debating whether the team should sign or trade Jagr and that decision was not been made as of Monday afternoon. The team still has to figure out if they should cash in on pending UFA Jagr or keep him around for another season - as the Stars were only two points out of a playoff spot Monday morning.
Calls for Bishop?
According to LeBrun, a source told ESPN.com Monday that the Ottawa Senators have received "several calls" regarding goalie Ben Bishop the past day or so.
But as LeBrun doesn't think the team feels pressed in moving Bishop before Wednesday's deadline and are 'more than happy' to wait until the summer to figure out their three-goalie situation with Bishop, Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner.
Also, pending UFA blueliner Sergei Gonchar is expected to stay for the rest of the season as the the Senators need him for the playoff run.
Blue Jackets - A Buyer?
LeBrun and TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger add that the Columbus Blue Jackets are willing to move one of their three first-round picks in this June'sdraft if they can get a scoring forward - with term past this season - in return.
LeBrun also said it wouldn't be a surprise me if Columbus was willing to move a defenceman to get a top-six scoring forward.
On The Defensive?
Sparking A Trade?
After dealing Jarome Iginla, the Flames may not be done. While Jay Bouwmeester and Miikka Kiprusoff have been in the spotlight, Glencross (14 goals and 22 points this season) could be an attractive option for other teams.
The Flames may ask for a goaltender, potentially Ben Bishop, in return from the Senators.
Understanding The Business
"Every year you think about that, but obviously this year probably more than any other year because of the position we're in and one year left on my contract," Vanek said. "Obviously, you think about it, but at the same time it's part of the business. If it happens, it happens, and we'll move on.
One More Move?
Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal speculates that the Penguins aren't done dealing and will be in the hunt for a fourth line centre.
Ducks In A Row
Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register points out that the Ducks have been quiet so far on the trade front, but that things could change before Wednesday's deadline.
"We'd love to help them," Murray said, "but we're not going to overpay."
