WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Patrick Keating and left-handed pitcher Allen Caldwell to contracts for the 2013 season.

Keating, 25, has played his first four professional seasons in the Kansas City Royals and served as the team's closer at every level he played. He played the majority of last season with Double-A Northwest Arkansas of the Texas League. In 32 appearances with the Naturals, he was 2-2 with a 4.79 ERA and nine saves. He amassed 15 saves in 2010 at Advanced-A and Double-A and has earned 40 saves during his career.

"Hopefully he's as good as advertised," Forney said. "He has a good fastball and breaking ball. He likes to compete in the ninth inning and we're thrilled to have him join our club."

Caldwell, 25, also played four seasons in the Royals organization, but missed all of last season with a shoulder injury. He posted a great season in 2011 with Single-A Kane County of the Midwest League and Advanced-A Wilmington of the Carolina League. In 20 appearances, including two starts, he was a perfect 6-0 with a 1.97 ERA and had 62 strikeouts in 50.1 innings.

"He's a good left-handed pitcher," Forney said. "He's a strike thrower. He has slightly above average velocity and a good curveball. You're going to see him be that seventh or eighth inning guy. He's more than a situational lefty."

The Goldeyes now have 21 players signed for the 2013 season, including 13 pitchers and eight position players.
