Oilers acquire Stafford from Capitals for Byers Staff

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Garrett Stafford from the Washington Capitals in exchange for forward Dane Byers.

Byers has scored six goals and four assists in 58 games with the Oklahom City Barons of the American Hockey League this season. He was originally selected in the second round (48th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. 

In 14 career NHL games with the Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets Byers has scored one goal and accumulated 60 penalty minutes.

Stafford, 33, has appeared in 48 games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League this season, scoring one goal and 20 assists. He has appeared in seven career NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars and Phoenix Coyotes, scoring two assists.

He was originally signed by the San Jose Sharks as an undrafted free agent in 2003.
