OTTAWA -- Captain Hayley Wickenheiser was scratched from Canada's lineup for a second straight game at the women's world hockey championship.

Canada's all-time leading scorer did not play in a preliminary-round game against Finland on Friday.

Wickenheiser suffered an upper-body injury in a 3-2 shootout against the U.S. to open the tournament Tuesday.

She left that game in the second period and did not play in a 13-0 win over Switzerland the following night.

"We're encouraged. She's improving," head coach Dan Church said earlier Friday. "I would expect her to target Monday. We feel pretty good about that. Still day to day, but she's progressing."

Assistant captain Caroline Ouellette returned to the lineup Friday to play her career 200th game.

Ouellette also sat out the game against Switzerland with an upper-body injury.

The tournament semifinals are Monday and the final is Tuesday.
