TORONTO - Jose Bautista was missing from the Blue Jays' lineup on Friday, his injured ankle forcing him to miss the opener of a three-game weekend set with division rival Boston.
"There's no pressing need for me to be playing right now but if this was like the end of the season and the games were to be ones to put us in the playoffs or we were in the playoffs I definitely would be playing," said Bautista.
Bautista was injured in the eighth inning of the Blue Jays' 10-8 win over Cleveland on Thursday. He rolled his ankle beating out a fielder's choice ground ball; Jose Reyes scored on the play.
Bautista, 32, is off to a strong start. Two of the slugger's three hits on the young season have been home runs.
