Kicking off TSN.ca's 2013 Play of the Year Showdown is the battle of the 2004 NHL entry draft. Washington's No. 1 overall pick, Alexander Ovechkin goes head-to-head against draft pick No. 2, fellow Russian forward and Penguins star, Evgeni Malkin. These two game-changers will not only look to secure the POY crown this year, but take their teams deep into the NHL playoff.
Ovi shows off both his hands and his patience as he dances across the top of the offensive zone, adds a dash of creativity and notches this entry into the 2013 POY Showdown.
Geno's goal takes place at much higher speeds. Malkin blocks a pass attempt in the neutral zone and picks up the puck on the fly near Tampa Bay's blue line. What happens next is certainly one of the best goals of the year, and hardly unexpected given Malkin's talent level.
