The St. Louis Cardinals give no quarter at the top of the MLB Power Rankings, remaining in the number one spot for the fifth consecutive week. The Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox and Oakland A's round out the Top Five.
Among the teams gaining ground this week, the San Diego Padres have jumped from 22 to 14 on the strength of their current six-game winning streak, while the Kansas City Royals, 10-2 in their last dozen games, are up from 21 to 16 and the resurgent Toronto Blue Jays have won five straight, climbing from 24 to a season-high 21.
Heading the other way, the Tampa Bay Rays are struggling a bit offensively and lost ace starter Alex Cobb to the DL, so they fall from nine to 15. The hapless Los Angeles Dodgers can't hit (save for rookie Yasiel Puig) and they drop from 18 to 23 while the Philadelphia Phillies have lost seven of nine and fall from 15 to 19.
