Colorado Avalanche executive vice-president Joe Sakic turned a few heads last week when he said the team was leaning towards taking a forward with the first overall pick in Sunday's NHL Draft.

Head coach Patrick Roy took it a step further on Monday, adding the Avalanche were looking at Halifax Mooseheads forward Nathan MacKinnon with the first overall selection if the draft were held that very day.

And director of amateur scouting Richard Pracey didn't disagree on Wednesday when talking about the team's plans at the draft.

Speaking on a conference call, Pracey reiterated that the Avalanche have MacKinnon in their sights.

"As of today, we're leaning on Nathan MacKinnon," Pracey said.

The Avalanche hold the No. 1 overall selection after winning the NHL Draft Lottery on April 29. Colorado has never had the No. 1 overall pick since the franchise relocated from Quebec prior to the 1995-96 season.

The 2013 NHL Draft will be held this Sunday, June 30, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.  Watch all the action unfold live on TSN and TSN Mobile TV at 2:30pm et/11:30am pt.
