Soccer players Stanley and Denbrook take CIS honours

OTTAWA -- University of Prince Edward Island soccer player Sarah Stanley was named Canadian Interuniversity Sport female athlete of the week Wednesday.

Kyle Denbrook, a soccer player from Saint Mary's University, took the CIS male athlete of the week honour.

Stanley, a fourth-year business administration student from Charlottetown, scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Dalhousie on Friday and tallied again in a 1-0 win over Saint Mary's on Sunday.

Soccer players Catherine Charron-Delage of Montreal, Chantal McFetridge of Ottawa and Julia Ignacio of Alberta were also nominated.

Denbrook, a fifth-year business administration student from Lower Sackville, N.S., helped his team to a pair of road wins last week. He scored in a 1-0 victory over Dalhousie on Sept. 25 and had the only goal in a 1-0 win over UPEI last Sunday.

Soccer players Massimo Di Ioia of McGill, Ian Wolfe of Laurentian and Navid Mashinchi of UBC were the other nominees.

Also Wednesday, McGill quarterback Pierre-Luc Dussault, Saint Mary's defensive lineman Rob Jubenville and Guelph returner Alex Charette were named CIS football players of the week.
