Twins' Albers named Canadian minor league pitcher of year

Rochester Red Wings ace Andrew Albers has been named Canadian minor league pitcher of the year by the Canadian Baseball Network.

Albers was 11-5 with a 2.86 earned-run average in 22 starts with the triple-A club this year, striking out 116 batters in 132 1/3 innings.

The North Battleford, Sask., native went 2-5 after he was called up by the Minnesota Twins.

Shortstop Sean Jamieson of Waterford, Ont. was named top Canadian hitter in the minor leagues. He hit .285 with 11 homers and 53 runs batted in at class-A Visalia in the Arizona Diamondbacks' system.
