ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- Eric O'Dell had a goal and two assists as the St. John's IceCaps built a 3-0 lead to dump the Manchester Monarchs 5-2 on Friday in American Hockey League action.
Jason Jaffray, John Albert, Kael Mouillierat, Blair Riley also scored for St. John's (6-6-1).
Nick Deslauriers and Scott Sabourin replied for Manchester (8-2-3).
Jaffray opened the scoring when he tipped in a Julian Melchiori wrist shot through traffic at 1:35 of the first period. John Albert made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 14:40 when he beat Martin Jones with a wrist shot from the left face-off dot.
Riley added a third goal for St. John's at 8:42 of the second period, connecting on a slapshot with an extra attacker out, as goalie Eddie Pasquale skated to the bench awaiting a Monarchs penalty call.
Deslauriers put Manchester on the board 3:19 into the third, beating Pasquale with a low wrist shot on the power play.
IceCaps forward Mouillierat scored an insurance marker at 9:47 in the third, and O'Dell closed the scoring for the home team with five minutes left.
Sabourin scored a consolation goal for Manchester with 2:15 remaining.
Pasquale made 28 saves for the IceCaps, while Jones turned away 25 for the Monarchs.
The IceCaps went 1 for 5 on the power play. Manchester was 0 for 8 with the man advantage.
