Kris Versteeg is returning to the team he won a Stanley Cup with.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced Thursday night that they had acquired Versteeg and forward Philippe Lefebrvre from the Florida Panthers in exchange for forward Jimmy Hayes and defenceman Dylan Olsen.

"We are excited to bring Kris back to Chicago and are pleased to add a player with his experience and versatility to our lineup" said vice president and general manager Stan Bowman. "Kris is well respected within our organization and will be able to make a seamless transition to our team because of his familiarity with many of our players and with Coach Quenneville. This move strengthens our team depth and Kris' skill is a great complement to our current roster."

The Panthers will retain half of Versteeg's salary as part of the trade; about $2.2 million for the next three seasons.

Versteeg had seven points in 18 games with the Panthers this season.

Versteeg won a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010 before signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs the following season.

Lefebrvre currently plays for the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones.

For the Panthers, Hayes has 13 points in 43 career NHL games.  Olsen has one point in 28 NHL games but has not played an NHL game since the 2011-12 season.
