Hockey Canada is making full use of the new extended deadline by the International Ice Hockey Federation to submit its roster for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and will announce its men's roster on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at Noon et/9am pt.
After appeals from some top European participants - namely Russia, Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic - last week, the National Hockey League, NHL Players' Association and the IIHF agreed to move the date to Tuesday, Jan. 7.
The new date gives countries extra time to take injuries into account, like Canada is doing with Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos's broken tibia.
USA Hockey will move forward with plans to announce both its men's and women's Olympic hockey teams on Jan. 1 as part of the Winter Classic.
The 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi run from Feb. 7 to Feb. 23 and the preliminary round of the hockey competition begins Feb. 12.
