Uruguay's World Cup is likely going to start without Luis Suarez.

According to a BBC report, Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez has named his starting 11 for Uruguay's opening match against Costa Rica and the Liverpool striker's name is not on it.

Suarez has resumed full training following a May 21 knee surgery but the reigning fourth-place finishers are expected to start a tandem of Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani up front.

"We still have one day to go. We don't want to jump the gun," Tabarez told "We have prepared not to have him, but it would be wonderful to have him. We have to be very careful."

Uruguay's final line-up will not be submitted until Saturday, but even if Suarez is not on it, he would still be eligible to substitute in from the bench.

The 27-year-old handily won the Barclays Premier League Golden Boot for 2013-14, scoring 31 goals in 33 appearances with Liverpool.

His 11 goals in CONMEBOL (South American Continent) qualification were tops amongst all players, one better than Argentina's Lionel Messi.
