Michael Phelps is coming out of retirement, the first step toward swimming at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The 22-time Olympic medallist will compete for the first time since the 2012 London Olympics at a meet in Mesa, Arizona, on April 24-26. Brittany MacLean of Toronto smashed the second longest-standing national women's record with her victory in the 800-metre freestyle on the last night of competition at the Canadian swimming trials on Saturday. MacLean clocked 8:24.91 seconds, eclipsing the previous mark of 8:27.59 set by Brittany Reimer of Victoria at the 2005 FINA World Championships in Montreal. Full Story.

Edmonton wants to host another Commonwealth Games. The city officially threw its hat in the bidding race for the 2022 Games. Edmonton, which hosted the 1978 Commonwealth Games, will be up against Durban, South Africa. Full Story.
