Silver brings Weinberger closer to Olympic goal

Richard Weinberger brought himself closer to Olympic qualification on Saturday with a silver-medal performance in Viedma, Argentina. A second-place finish in the FINA 10km Marathon Open Water Swimming World Cup meant the 21 year old from Victoria, BC, met Swimming Canada's qualification standard and became the first of two male competitors selected for an international Olympic qualifying race in June. Record Breaker

Lolo Jones led an American sweep of the podium in breaking the 19-year record of the 60-metre hurdles at the Russian Winter indoor meet on Sunday. Jones clocked 7.89 seconds to shave 0.03 seconds off the mark set by Jeva Sokolova of Russia in 1993. She was followed by Ivette Lewis in 8.03 and Danielle Carruthers in 8.05. Full Story.

Big Day At The Races

MacKenzie Downing of Whitehorse and Jillian Tyler of Calgary helped Canada to victory in the women's 4x100 medley relay and added an individual bronze on Sunday to conclude the Austin Grand Prix swimming competition. Full Story.
