Canadian single sculler gets bronze at U23 rowing worlds

TRAKAI, Lithuania -- Canadian single sculler Carling Zeeman won a bronze medal in the World Rowing Under-23 Championships.

Zeeman, a Laurentian University student from Cambridge, Ont., finished third in 08:20.76.

Germany's Julia Lier won gold in 08:17.11, and Denmark's Rikke Quist took the silver medal with 08:18.96.

Zeeman's bronze medal is the first heavyweight women's sculling medal at a World Championships or Olympics since 1996.

The lightweight women's double boat of Elizabeth Fenje and Erin Snelgrove finished fifth overall in 07:33.83.

Dylan Harris and Mark Henry were third in the B final of the lightweight men's double, finishing ninth overall with a time of 06:56.85.

The lightweight men's four crew of Marc Addison, Evan Cheng, Maxwell Lattimer and Graham Schenck finished ninth place overall with 06:25.39.
