BRISBANE, Australia -- Olympic diving gold medallist Matthew Mitcham has been sent to hospital for scans after hitting his head on a pool deck at the Australian diving championships.
It's believed Mitcham slipped and hit his head before the start of 3-meter springboard event at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre on Thursday.
The 2008 Olympic 10-meter platform champion was not believed to be seriously hurt, but was sent for scans as a precaution.
Mitcham failed to make the final 12 at the London Games this year. Last month he released a book that revealed he battled a methamphetamine addiction in 2011 that almost derailed his career and his life.
