Acapulco, Mexico (Sports Network) - Juan Carlos Ferrero and 2003 titlist Agustin Calleri were second-round winners on Wednesday at the $690,000 Abierto Mexicano Telcel.
The top-seeded Ferrero bested Lukas Dlouhy 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), while Calleri outlasted Oscar Hernandez 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The top two seeds set the tone for the day at The Fairmont Acapulco Princess.
Every other seeded player advanced, though some were stretched to the limit. Third-seeded Nicolas Almagro survived Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) and fifth-seeded Gaston Gaudio slipped past Juan-Pablo Guzman 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Last year's Acapulco runner-up Juan Ignacio Chela cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Nicolas Devilder, while 2002 and 2004 Acapulco champion Carlos Moya knocked off Diego Hartfield 6-3, 7-5.
In other action, sixth-seeded Nicolas Massu bested Stefano Galvani 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 and seventh-seeded Jose Acasuso downed Jiri Vanek 6-1, 6-2.
