Bad Gastein, Austria (Sports Network) - Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain was the only seed in action Monday and was quickly eliminated at the Gastein Ladies tennis tournament.
Germany's Tatjana Malek pulled the mild upset of the fifth-seeded Suarez Navarro with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 first-round victory.
Other winners Monday on the limited schedule were Germany's Andrea Petkovic and Romania's Ioana Raluca Olaru. Petkovic was a 6-4, 6-3 winner against fellow German Sandra Kloesel, while Olaru rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Marta Domachowska of Poland.
Second-seeded Francesca Schiavone of Italy withdrew from the tournament Monday because of a back injury. Israel's Shahar Peer was moved into Schiavone's slot in the draw and given the ninth seed.
The top seed this week is France's Alize Cornet.
This week's winner will earn a first prize of $37,000.
