Bad Gastein, Austria (Sports Network) - Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia and Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld were second-round winners Wednesday at the Gastein Ladies tennis tournament.
Rybarikova, the sixth seed, notched a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory over France's Pauline Parmentier, while the seventh-seeded Groenefeld eased past Czech lucky loser Tereza Hladikova, 6-3, 6-2. Parmentier was the defending champ.
Kazahkstan's Yaroslava Shvedova knocked off ninth-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel in a mere 64 minutes with a 6-2, 6-1 rout and will next take on Austrian wild card Yvonne Meusburger in the quarterfinals. Meusberger toppled Germany's Tatjana Malek, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
The second round will continue on Thursday with top-seeded Alize Cornet of France in action against Austria's Patricia Mayr. Another Austrian native, third-seeded Sybille Bammer, will meet Romania's Ioana Raluca Olaru.
Also Thursday, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic will take on Spain's Nuria Llagostera Vives and Germany's Andrea Petkovic will face fourth- seeded Czech Iveta Benesova.
This week's winner will earn a first prize of $37,000.
