NEW YORK - Canadian Stephanie Dubois is out of the U.S. Open after a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 second-round loss to Romanian teen Sorana Cirstea.

The Laval, Que., native, ranked 113th to Cirstea's 26th, fought for nearly 2 1/2 hours on a sidecourt at Flushing Meadows on Thursday.

The Canadian was hampered by seven double-faults and only converted a third of her 15 break point chances while losing serve six times.

The mistake-plagued match featured 32 break points.

"I had a great battle, it was a match with ups and downs," said Dubois. "She had momentum, I had momentum. The third set was tight, it turned on one or two points."

Earlier in the week Dubois won her first career Grand Slam match, defeating Kristina Mladenovic in the first round.

After losing the first set, Dubois took charge in the second, catching Cirstea in the final game with a break to tie the match.

But the quality degenerated in the third, with breaks from the fifth through ninth games.

Dubois returned into the net for a Cirstea match point and the 19-year-old Romanian converted for the victory.

"I went for my shots," said Dubois. "It was frustratring, but that is tennis. Sometimes you're just out of luck a bit. It's diappointing, but I did my best. She served better at the end to win."
