Five Canadians reach second round at Tevlin Challenger

TORONTO -- Five Canadians won their opening matches Wednesday at the Tevlin Challenger event at Rexall Centre.

Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., defeated Nicole Rottmann of Austria 6-0, 6-3 and Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., beat Francoise Abanda of Montreal 6-2, 7-6 (6).

Toronto's Sharon Fichman defeated Gloria Liang of Mississauga, Ont., 6-2, 7-5, Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa downed American Samantha Crawford 5-7, 6-0 and Erin Routliffe of Caledon, Ont., topped American Jan Abaza 6-2, 6-0.

Rebecca Marino of Vancouver and Elisabeth Founier of Ottawa advanced to the second round earlier in the week.

Previous winners of the $50,000 ITF Pro Circuit tournament include Sabine Lisicki and Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak.
