Eastbourne, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seed Richard Gasquet and American Sam Querrey recorded quarterfinal victories in between rain drops Thursday at the Aegon International tennis event, a final grass-court Wimbledon tune-up.
The French star Gasquet, who turned 28 here on Wednesday, is one win away from reaching his 22nd career ATP final after grounding dangerous Slovak Martin Klizan 6-3, 6-4, while Querrey conquered fellow non-seed Julien Benneteau, of France, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 on Day 4 at Devonshire Park.
Gasquet's semifinal opponent on Friday will be Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin, while Querrey awaits the winner between third-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez and France's Jeremy Chardy, who had their quarterfinal postponed because of rain and darkness. The left-handed Lopez was last week's grass-court runner-up at The Queen's Club in London.
Istomin reached the final four by handling Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
