TORONTO - Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney says his team's defending has reached the embarrassing stage.

After the club yielded three more goals on the weekend in a 3-1 loss in New England, Vanney and his coaching staff made the squad watch most of the last 20 goals the MLS team has conceded.

A momentary lack of concentration was the common theme at the Monday video session.

"Almost all of them are just us checking out for a minute, losing concentration," Vanney said after practice Tuesday. "Situations that we can deal with. A lot of them came off set pieces."

Toronto, which hosts Orlando City on Wednesday night, has conceded 14 goals in its last four road outings. And it stands 19th in the league in goals conceded per game at 1.70.

Vanney has lamented his team's lack of communication on defence for several weeks now. The video session was an harsh reminder of what has to improve.

"From me down to every last guy that was in that room, we were embarrassed with the goals that we've been giving up," said Vanney. "For me that awareness is the first part of getting it sorted out. Because I know the group does not want to be in the video room, on the video screen the next time we give up a goal. Because it was that embarrassing to watch for all of us."

Toronto (8-8-4) has conceded 27 goals in 13 road games and just seven in seven games at home. The good news is that 10 of Toronto's 14 remaining league games are at BMO Field.

Vanney believes the addition of experienced defender Ahmed Kantari will help, although the Moroccan international couldn't staunch the flow of goals Saturday.

The coach says he has also asked goalkeeper Joe Bendik to be more vocal at the back. But everybody has to play their part.

"Our expectation is that we have to get back to zero goals against, maybe one. And if we do that we give ourselves a chance to win every game.

"But right now, averaging three goals against in the last five games is not going to give us too many points."

In other news, Toronto waived striker Bright Dike on Tuesday after an injury-plagued stint with the club. Acquired in a trade with Portland in September 2013, the 28-year-old had one goal and one assist in 11 league matches.
