Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien will be behind the bench again next season, general manager Marc Bergevin confirmed at his end of season news conference on Friday.

"I have no reason to make any changes when it comes to our coaching staff," said Bergevin. "They are doing great work."

Therrien, who signed a four year contract extension last summer that will take him through the 2018-19 season, coached the Canadiens to a 50-22-10 record this season, before being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

"Michel Therrien is doing exceptional work. I'm disappointed anyone would think otherwise."

Bergevin also stated that he plans to retain the services of one of the players he acquired at the trade deadline.

"Jeff Petry is a priority for us," said Bergevin. "I think he fits perfectly with our team. He played some big minutes for us."

After joining the Canadiens in the March 2nd trade, Petry appeared in 19 regular season games posting three goals and four assists.  He also played in all 12 playoff games and added two goals and one assist.
