Toronto FC midfielder Jay Chapman and forward Jordan Hamilton and Montreal Impact goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau have been chosen to play in the 2016 Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game, designed to showcase the league's young talent.

The homegrown MLS players, coached by former U.S. star Landon Donovan, will take on the Mexico under-20 national team July 27 at Avaya Stadium as part of the MLS all-star game festivities.

Earthquakes midfielder Tommy Thompson, the club's first homegrown player signing, will make his third straight appearance in the game. The roster also includes Seattle and U.S. international forward Jordan Morris.

MLS homegrown players aged 23 or under were available for selection. Eleven MLS clubs are represented on the 20-man roster.

Chapman, a 22-year-old midfielder from Brampton, Ont., played in last year's game.

"Last year was a great time," he said. "I got to meet a lot of the up-and-coming guys in the league."

"It's just a really fun event," he added. "It will be nice to get some more minutes under my belt. I look forward to it."

It's a first for Hamilton, a 20-year-old striker from Toronto, and Crepeau, a 22-year-old goalkeeper from Quebec.

"It's something I always wanted to be a part of ... I'm pretty happy about it," said Hamilton.

Toronto coach Greg Vanney welcomed the spotlight on his young Canadians.

"It's a great opportunity to play a quality opponent in a nice environment where players get recognized but it's also a chance to showcase your development as a young professional," he said.

The homegrown team tied Club America under-20 side 1-1 last year.

Homegrown players can be signed without going through the MLS SuperDraft if they have been a member of a club's youth academy for at least one year and have met necessary requirements.
