HAMILTON - Defensive back Courtney Stephen is staying put.

The 26-year-old Brampton, Ont., native signed a three-year contract extension with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Monday. Stephen was scheduled to become a free agent Tuesday.

Stephen had four interceptions and 48 tackles in 16 games last season with Hamilton. He'sis entering his fourth season with the Ticats, having registered 129 tackles, six interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Hamilton selected the six-foot, 194-pound Stephen in the second round, No. 8 overall, in the 2012 CFL draft.

Stephen played collegiately at Northern Illinois (2010-12) and Wilfrid Laurier (2008-09).
