Tiger-Cats continue to rule CFL Rankings

There is suddenly some stability in the TSN.ca CFL Power Rankings, as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats continue in the top spot, ahead of the Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts.

Hamilton has five consecutive double-digit wins, and QB Zach Collaros -- who leads the league with 2,314 passing yards, has paced the attack.

The biggest move in this week's rankings belonged to the Montreal Alouettes, going from seven to five, though it's more a reflection of hard times for teams that were losing ground, like B.C. and Ottawa, than an indication of superior play by Montreal.

Made short work of the Eskimos, scoring 49 points in what was supposed to be a defensive battle, but five consecutive double-digit victories have made it easy to keep the Ticats as the top-ranked team. Incidentally, they're doing it with the fewest rushing yards (75.1) per game.

Key Injuries: DT Brian Bulcke (knee), DT Linden Gaydosh (Achilles), RB C.J. Gable (elbow), WR Andy Fantuz (arm).

A week after a blowout win over Ottawa, the Stamps went back to eking out a win in Saskatchewan. QB Bo Levi Mitchell has upped his game in recent weeks and RB Matt Walter is helping to carry the running game in Jon Cornish's absence.

Key Injuries: DT Corey Mace (foot), T Dan Federkeil (leg), T Edwin Harrison (leg), RB Jon Cornish (thumb).

Even though they gve up 486 yards to Ottawa, the Argos won again, with QB Trevor Harris continuing his stellar play, spreading the ball around to his receivers -- five ranged between 35 and 55 receiving yards against the RedBlacks.

Key Injuries: QB Ricky Ray (shoulder), SB Andre Durie (knee), WR Chad Owens (ankle).

Getting stomped at home by Hamilton was humbling, but it did give the Eskimos a good look at QB James Franklin, who passed for 254 yards and ran for 61 more; it was a strong enough showing to earn Franklin the start for this week's game against Toronto.

Key Injuries: RB John White (Achilles), G Simeon Rottier (knee), WR Shamawd Chambers (knee), QB Mike Reilly (knee), G Greg Wojt (concussion).

It seems like there should be some underlying story for why Tom Higgins was fired as head coach. Sure, the Als are 3-5, but they've been working with their third-string quarterback for virtually the entire season and were just coming off a 10-point road win at B.C., but now it's Jim Popp's job to sort this all out.

Key Injuries: WR Eric Deslauriers (finger), DB Andrew Lue (hamstring), DE Aaron Lavarias (arm), WR James Rodgers (undisclosed), QB Dan LeFevour (shoulder), QB Jonathan Crompton (shoulder), LB Kyries Hebert (ankle), LB Bear Woods (pectoral).

After dominating early in the season, RB Andrew Harris has been held in check (46 rushing yards on 16 carries) over the past couple weeks and the Lions haven't been able to overcome. It's been hard to score enough to cover for their defensive shortcomings, let alone trying to keep pace when the offence isn't firing either.

Key Injuries:  WR Lavelle Hawkins (arm).

Ottawa RedBlacks

Coughed up a fourth-quarter lead at Toronto, but that was better than losing 48-3 at Calgary the week before. A few steps forward and a few steps back has been the RedBlacks' way this year, and that counts as progress over last year's two-win season.

Key Injuries: WR Marcus Henry (undisclosed), MLB Travis Brown (shoulder).

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

QB Robert Marve wasn't bad in his first start, passing for 203 yards and running for 37 more in a 27-20 loss to Toronto a couple of weeks ago, Winnipeg's fourth loss in the past five games.

Key Injuries:  QB Drew Willy (knee), RB Paris Cotton (arm), WR Darvin Adams (upper body).

Credit QB Brett Smith (181 passing yards, 3 TDs, 54 rushing yards vs. Calgary), who has performed well as he gets more playing time but, so it goes for the Riders, it's still just good enough to lose.

Key Injuries:  QB Darian Durant (Achilles), ILB Shea Emry (neck), QB Kevin Glenn (shoulder).
