QUEBEC CITY, Que. - Top-seeded Madison Keys has withdrawn from the National Bank Cup women's tennis tournament with a wrist injury.

Keys, ranked 18th in the world, was scheduled to face Anna Tatishvili on Wednesday night. Her place will be taken by lucky loser Nadia Kichenok of Ukraine.

"We'd already decided to delay the match she was going to play to give her some extra rest, but unfortunately she advised us this morning that she would not be able to play tonight as planned," tournament director Jacques Herisset said in a statement. "Madison is very disappointed of course, but we do understand that it’s the best decision for her."

The US$226,750 tournament runs through Sunday at Laval University.

Keys reached the round of 16 at the U.S. Open last week, where she lost to fellow American Serena Williams.
