Toronto FC's busy offseason continues, acquiring Canadian international midfileder Will Johnson from the Portland Timbers on Friday.

Johnson, a 28-year-old Toronto native, captained the Timbers to the 2015 MLS Cup earlier this month.

“We are pleased to add another Canadian international and veteran player with MLS experience that has won two MLS Cups with two different clubs in his career,” said Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “The addition of Will Johnson will help strengthen our goal of developing a winning culture and spirit here at Toronto FC. He represents another significant piece as we continue to build a championship caliber club.”

A veteran of nine MLS seasons, Johnson has been capped 38 times by Canada, scoring four goals.

Also spending time with the Chicago Fire and Real Salt Lake, Johnson spent two seasons in the Eridivisie early in his career with Heereveen and De Grafschaap.

Johnson becomes the second former Timber to join TFC in a week. Defender Drew Moor signed with the team as a free agent on Wednesday.

Toronto FC also confirmed on Friday the acquisition of Iran international defender Steven Beitashour from the Vancouver Whitecaps for a second-round pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.
